Proposing Change: Dissemination Project
Formulating the project proposal for our dissemination project has proved itself interesting with some challenges and provided more awareness. We have become more aware about how oxytocin is used in clinical practice and its importance. The challenges we have seen are mostly based around the complexities of gathering data, consolidating, and providing as teaching.
The use of oxytocin regarding postpartum hemorrhage is a well-used and well-studied process. By reviewing literature and learning more about its use I have become more aware of how and importantly why it is used. The subtleties of the timing of when it is administered is interesting and directly affects postpartum hemorrhage. This project has helped with my other classes as well as my future practice. I feel we need to keep the transference of knowledge to a basic level as the depths of detail in its administration could out shadow the why and the needed interventions that go along with oxytocin.
We have been refining our project as to how we are collecting data. We realize that the information around administration needs to be documented in the moment and then gathered later from charting. Transferring the data to education is a challenge as we need to make it concise and show that the goal is the awareness of postpartum hemorrhage.
Collectively as a group we have come together to refine our proposal to lead towards creating awareness of how and why oxytocin is administered. Which in return will draw attention to awareness of postpartum hemorrhage. We have done a great job of taking a large very detailed concept and honing it down to a straightforward approachable concept. This project is great practice for when in the future I have something that I would like to convey to staff. Making information concise and accessible helps promote mindful awareness to a critical topic. Initiating thinking by bringing awareness is a great way to provide better patient care.

Thank you, Greg, for reflecting so thoughtfully on your group’s process and progress thus far with your EBP dissemination project, and how your approach to this specific project can be applicable to any area for improvement within nursing & healthcare in general. As with any group initiative, there will be challenges and successes along the way, and it’s wonderful that your group has maintained an open-mindedness & adaptability to be able to refine your approach to ensure the most critical information about your topic is shared. Thank you for your hard work!
