Presenting Change

Presenting Change

Throughout this semester we had the pleasure of working on a group project.  Our focus was the effects of Pitocin on post-partum hemorrhage.  It was fascinating to read about the topic, especially as it aligned with material for our Maternity/Pediatrics course.  The process of doing the initial research and organization as if we were to write a paper, but then transitioning it to a poster and a presentation was great.  It showed an alternative form of education by taking a…

Proposing Change: Dissemination Project

Proposing Change: Dissemination Project

Formulating the project proposal for our dissemination project has proved itself interesting with some challenges and provided more awareness.  We have become more aware about how oxytocin is used in clinical practice and its importance.  The challenges we have seen are mostly based around the complexities of gathering data, consolidating, and providing as teaching. The use of oxytocin regarding postpartum hemorrhage is a well-used and well-studied process.  By reviewing literature and learning more about its use I have become more…

Planning Change

This semester of Evidence Based Practice brings another research project.  Which I really do enjoy writing and researching.  The semester started with forming a group, and I have to say I genuinely appreciate everyone in my cohort.  This made selecting a group casual and easy.  The four of us are very productive and easy going at the same time.  We were able to quickly select a topic (Ptocin and its impact on postpartum hemorrhage.)  I feel like this sets a…

Telehealth and Telemedicine

Telehealth and Telemedicine

The world of telehealth greatly advanced with the covid-19 pandemic and prior had been advancing slowly since its beginnings.  Dating back to 1879 when an article in the Lancet when the telephone was identified as useful tool to reduce unnecessary office visits.  Moving forward to NASA exploring the need to monitor astronauts remotely during the Mercury Space Program in the late 1950s.  With the advancement of technology telehealth and telemedicine has made steady but slow progress over the years.  I…

EBP: Final Reflection

EBP: Final Reflection

As we worked through writing our research paper on the effects of music therapy on burn patients we learned how to navigate as a team.  This was new to me as I have only written papers independently.  Dividing the workload was interesting as we were able to find articles and see different angles of the material and pull it all together.  The cohesiveness was great as we were able to sort through a vast amount of data tune our writing…

Through evidence appraisal and synthesis

Through evidence appraisal and synthesis

I found that I was able to reinforce what I thought was already true, that burn patients will benefit from music therapy.  The literature that I reviewed was impressively written and utilized a lot of strong research skills.  I think they are all great examples of how to approach scientific writing.  I really appreciate that they encompassed a global perspective and various studies from multiple countries.  I would say that one of the challenges for me is that I appreciate…

Medication Reconciliation Project

Medication Reconciliation Project

Reflecting on this project brings me to think about possible challenges and what is being done correctly.  I feel my client has a good grasp on living a healthy lifestyle, they have a healthy diet, exercise regularly, see their doctor regularly, and adhere to their medications.  My client is older than 65 so it puts them in a vulnerable population to health risks and to sensitivities to medications.  I see that as a potential safety concern and special attention needs…
