Preparation for Licensure

Preparation for Licensure

ATI practice exams were a large component of the Nursing program at UNE. We developed SMART goals earlier in this semester.  One of them was to mindfully create time and space to properly take ATI assessments.  I have a particular spot in the library where I take exams, it is tucked away at a desk in the quiet section.  I make sure I have everything I need and set myself up for a focused experience.  I typically listen to music…

Post Community Partnership

Post Community Partnership

I got the opportunity to work at two different locations for my community partnership, Maine Adaptive Sports and The Pine Tree Society.  These opportunities carried a similarity in that they focused meeting outdoor needs and did not focus on the disability itself.  They identified capabilities and met the persons outdoor activity goals by utilizing care and tailored devices.  This was the most meaningful part for me as I was able to help people do some activities that I truly enjoy. …

Nurses: If Florence Could See Us Now

Nurses: If Florence Could See Us Now

What skills did the nurses exemplify that you need to develop in yourself? Skills exemplified in the Nurses movie that I would like to develop in myself are abundant as I am just starting out and want to hone my skills.  I would like to focus on working with children and the ability to connect with them.  I can see that with so many patient populations as the ability to connect with a wide variety of people is a foundation…

Community Partnership: Maine Adaptive Sports

Community Partnership: Maine Adaptive Sports

For my community partnership I will be working with Maine Adaptive Sports & Recreation.  They are an organization that provides outdoor opportunities with people with various disabilities.  I will be participating in their winter snowboard instructor program.  I look forward to this as I grew up skiing at Loon Mountain, Nh who has had a similar program to this.  I have always been intrigued by adaptive skiing/snowboarding and it’s great to have an opportunity to be part of it. I…

Prepare For Transition

Prepare For Transition

I’m excited to settle into life as a nurse.  Finishing this program and starting a career feels like a whole new life and I am excited for this new chapter.  I set out on this journey about 2 years ago and it has come together so nicely.   It is quite amazing to set a series of goals and reach them. After graduation I plan on taking the NCLEX as soon as possible and will be studying until then.  There will…

Presenting Change

Presenting Change

Throughout this semester we had the pleasure of working on a group project.  Our focus was the effects of Pitocin on post-partum hemorrhage.  It was fascinating to read about the topic, especially as it aligned with material for our Maternity/Pediatrics course.  The process of doing the initial research and organization as if we were to write a paper, but then transitioning it to a poster and a presentation was great.  It showed an alternative form of education by taking a…

I am happy to have been a part of this experience and receive this training as MCIs will be a part of life and my career moving forward. I hope you enjoy the presentation and feel free to leave comments or reach out to discuss.

Proposing Change: Dissemination Project

Proposing Change: Dissemination Project

Formulating the project proposal for our dissemination project has proved itself interesting with some challenges and provided more awareness.  We have become more aware about how oxytocin is used in clinical practice and its importance.  The challenges we have seen are mostly based around the complexities of gathering data, consolidating, and providing as teaching. The use of oxytocin regarding postpartum hemorrhage is a well-used and well-studied process.  By reviewing literature and learning more about its use I have become more…

Reflection – CECE Event: Promoting Resiliency and Relationships in Patient/Client Care

Reflection – CECE Event: Promoting Resiliency and Relationships in Patient/Client Care

Attending the Center to Advance Interprofessional Education and Practice (CAIEP) discussion was a great opportunity to hear from a variety of fellow University of New England (UNE) students from different programs and different years.  The collective input and discussion were focused on resilience and relationships surrounding patient care.  To define resilience in my own words: The ability to see through difficult situations and obtain a goal.  Resilience is crucial in the field of nursing as we are the support or…
