I found that I was able to reinforce what I thought was already true, that burn patients will benefit from music therapy.  The literature that I reviewed was impressively written and utilized a lot of strong research skills.  I think they are all great examples of how to approach scientific writing.  I really appreciate that they encompassed a global perspective and various studies from multiple countries. 

I would say that one of the challenges for me is that I appreciate more sentiment in writing.  In scientific writing it is all about the facts and does not entice a reader.  I also found this reading material to be a bit known.  By that I mean that I feel that it’s obvious that people navigate pain much better when they have music.  I think this is why all tattoo shops play music and usually let the customer select their preferred tunes.  On my next research assignment, I will choose a topic with a bit more depth and that holds more interest for me.  An important part of working in a group is to be accommodating.  Even though something might not be ideal it is important to see what is best for the group and work through any individual issues.

Regarding my future nursing practice this reinforced the idea of environment.  To create a positive space requires knowing the patient and what their psychosocial needs are.  I think it’s important to see the surroundings and know that there is a big picture that leads to well-being and healing.
